How is Has Your Dog Got a Damaged Or Sore Tail?

We had a good read. For the benefit of yourself. Be sure to read to the end. I want you to get good knowledge from Am Vets.

Sam damaged his tail tearing nearby the house chasing his sister Izzie, he probably caught it on the edge of the radiator. At first it was a small graze about 1/2 inch long but he would not stop licking it and banging it on cupboards, fridge, chair and table legs so it became infected. At first the vet tried antibiotics and dressings but Sam became a dab hand at removing them effortlessly. After many visits to the vets, costing a small fortune, a friend suggested tying his tail in the middle of his legs, I did this by tying an old tie nearby his middle with the clasp from the end of an old lead attached to it. Next I taped a ring from a keyring to his tail about 5 inches from the tip then naturally clipped the ring to the hook! This cured the qoute of him banging it on every item in sight. Alas the success did not last long because it was now located in an ideal position for licking when Sam lay down. The next step was to fit him with a veterinary head collar, that looked like an upturned lampshade! This meant he could no longer reach his tail to lick it. qoute solved, well not quite, Sam decided that wearing this "lampshade" meant he had to stand riveted to the spot for an hour or so until we felt sorry for him and removed the "lampshade" so that he immediately flopped on his side a fell asleep worn out.

The qoute now was when he woke up, while we were busy doing other things, he started licking it again and undid all the medical that had taken place. We were back to quadrate one. We realised we were being too soft with him and that he would have to keep the "lampshade" on, this meant that Sam was riveted yet again only this time we did not give in to him and at last he realised that he could lie down in it and promptly fell asleep.

After a join of weeks my daughter came up with an even great idea, we put the new dressing on his tail as usual but this time we used an empty plastic bottle, cut the top and bottom off to let air in and cut it from top to bottom along one side so that it could be folded snugly nearby his tail and taped in place. The key was to make sure that it overhung the end of his tail by about 2-3 inches so that he could not reach inside to lick it. As a ensue he no longer needed the "lampshade" on an was much happier. So, this is the method that I would recommend.

If you rule to try this method I hope it works for you too!
